Death Stranding has made its surprising debut on Xbox Series S and X.
Originally, the game was a well-known exclusive for PlayStation 4, launching in 2019.
This title marked Hideo Kojima’s first project following the Metal Gear series, and its development was gradually hinted at since it was unveiled in 2016.
In 2017, it was recognized as one of the Most Wanted Games at the Golden Joystick Awards, but the actual reception upon release was quite mixed. While some reviews labeled it a walking simulator that was “filled entirely with fetch quests,” others remarked that “if you invest a lot, you receive a lot in return.”
The game didn’t align with everyone’s expectations, and in a surprising turn, it has now appeared on Microsoft’s Xbox exactly five years after its PlayStation debut. This shift became possible due to the expiration of Sony’s five-year exclusivity agreement.
Is Death Stranding available on Game Pass?
Unlike Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which launched on Xbox’s subscription service from day one, Death Stranding will not be featured on Game Pass. As the availability on Game Pass typically remains uncertain until about a month in advance, it’s unclear when it might make an entry.
Currently, the game is available at a 50% launch discount, allowing you to purchase it for just $19.99.
What is Death Stranding about?
Given that it’s a Hideo Kojima creation, the answer to that is quite complex.
In essence, your role involves traversing the United States to reunite humanity.
The game is officially described as follows:
‘In the future, a mysterious phenomenon known as the Death Stranding has created a bridge between the living and the dead, resulting in grotesque beings from the afterlife roaming a world plagued by a desolate society.
‘As Sam Bridges, your objective is to bring hope to humanity by reconnecting the last survivors of a devastated America. Will you be able to piece together the fractured world, one step at a time?’
